Families are spending more time in front of their TV’s, computers and video games. While technology is definitely an incredible resource (and something we depend on for education, keeping records and entertainment), sometimes it is great to unplug for a bit and take a breath of fresh air.
The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood has put together a yearly event encouraging children, families, schools and communities to go Screen Free and make changes towards a more active and outdoor lifestyle. This year the event will happen from April 30th- May 6th.
Over at Tales of a Mountain Mama they are working hard to spread the word about such a worthwhile cause. Throughout this week, April 23rd- April 27th, as we lead up to Screen Free Week they will be hosting a number of giveaways to help gear up families to get outside (literally) and linking up to various blogs (including A Little Campy) for ideas on how to make it work for your own family.
If you can’t unplug the entire week (which is certainly impossible for many) we encourage you to set aside a few hours a day or throughout the week to take advantage of the benefits of simplicity and the outdoors. In short, we want to encourage outside play.
You can find out more information about the event here (make sure to check in daily because giveways only last 24 hours) and please join us in helping spread the word!
Screen Free. We DARE you!
