The Great American Backyard Campout is this Saturday. On this night, there will be families camping in their own backyards, as well as campgrounds and in the back country.
The Campout is the signature event of the National Wildlife’s Federation’s Be Out There Movement. Their goal is to engage 10 million new kids in outdoor play over the next 3 years.
Why is there such an emphasis on camping out? Well, as you know, camping is a great way to get kids excited about the outdoors and outdoor play. Consider the fact that 25% of kids play outside every day, compared to 75% a generation ago. And according to the National Wildlife Federation’s website,
“Studies show that outdoor time helps children grow lean and strong, enhances creativity and attention spans, decreases aggression and boosts classroom performance.”
We couldn’t agree more. And camping is fun!
So grab your tent. Grab some snacks. Grab a flashlight (or 2). And spend some quality time with your kids in the great outdoors. It’s as close as your own backyard.
I’ll see ya around the campfire.
Have you ever camped out in the backyard with your kids? Do you plan on participating in this year’s Great American Backyard Campout?
