The United Nations General Assembly has launched a global campaign to bring awareness to how forests enrich our environment. The aim of the International Year of the Forests 2011 is for people worldwide to experience the forest and to understand how our vitality is linked to our eco-system.
The International Year of the Forests 2011 is brought to you locally through the United States Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
The U.N. hopes to accomplish a number of objectives through the IYOF campaign including reverse the loss of forest cover and increase the area of sustainably managed forests.
What can you do to celebrate the International Year of Forests 2011? Take a nature walk. Plant a tree. Participate in one of the many events scheduled throughout the country for this year.
